Statistics of teen pregnancy

According to the CDC, the mean age of mothers for their first born child has risen since 1990.  The mean age of mothers also differs depending on race.  For white mothers from 1990-2008, the mean age has risen from 25 to 26 years old.  For Hispanic mothers, the age has risen from 22.4 to 23.1 years old, and for black mothers the age has risen from 21.7 to 22.8 years old.

According to the CDC, the birth rate for teenagers in 2009 dropped 6 percent.  Mothers between the ages of 15-19 went from a birth rate of 41.5 per 1,000 teenagers in 2008 to 39.1 in 2009.  The government has spent a lot of money on sex education and pregnancy prevention.  As for the higher rates among different ethnicities, it must be a cultural way of life.  Maybe Hispanics don't see teen pregnancy as a bad thing.
